The intricate
carvings on the window screens makes them an exquisite hanging. Nowadays
forbidden to export in many Chinese provinces because they have become harder to
find. The open space in the screens was to create a breeze in the house and the
carvings protected insects coming in. Some panels could open, others were fixed.
Screens as tall as these may have been from inside
of the house where
they made a separation between two rooms.
